Do you want a dramatic change in breast shape and size? An increasing number of women are choosing to combine breast augmentation with lifting procedures to repair sagging breasts.
There are several factors that can contribute to breast sagging, also known as breast ptosis. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can stretch breast tissues and reduce firmness. Extreme weight loss can lead to a deflated look. In addition, many people lose elasticity as they age, leading to gradual downward pull from the weight of breasts. Regardless of the cause of sagging breasts, a breast lift with augmentation is often the only way to restore the youthful shape and firmness that we all desire.
A breast lift with augmentation combines a breast lift, in which excess skin is removed and the remaining tissues resculpted, with an augmentation, which is when an implant is placed to increase size. Combining these two procedures leads to increased size and volume with a perky, firm breast shape.
A breast lift with augmentation is also known as a mastopexy. It is becoming an increasingly popular option because it can undo years or even decades of gradual change in one simple, safe surgery. It is chosen when a breast lift or an augmentation on their own would not be enough to meet the patient’s wishes. Together, these procedures can add size while improving both youthful shape and lift.
The First Step: Consultation
Before making any decisions, it is important to consult with a qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Jacono and his team are here to help. In your consultation, you will meet with Dr. Jacono or one of his associates. You can discuss your goals for your appearance and decide if this procedure is the right choice. In addition, you will have an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the procedure.
Your plastic surgeon will help you to decide the right shape, size, and type of implant. You can also try different sizes to see which best complements your figure. Our practice offers both saline and silicone implants in a variety of sizes and shapes. In general, petite women have a more natural result with silicone implants, while women with more tissue prefer saline implants that can be placed under the muscle with a small incision and then filled to provide the exact perfect size.
How Is a Breast Lift with Augmentation Performed?
Every cosmetic surgery is tailored to the needs of the patient. However, there are a few commonalities. In most cases, the augmentation, or implant placement, is performed first. This can be done using one of two different incision types.
An inframammary incision is made in the fold at the base of your breast. In most cases, this incision will leave a scar that is not visible because it will be in this small fold. In a periareolar incision, the incision is made where breast tissue meets the areola, or the colored area around your nipple. These scars are not usually visible once they are healed.
Once the augmentation has been performed, the surgeon will begin the lift. Excess skin and tissue will be removed, and a new breast shape formed. The end result will be round, firm breasts in the size and shape you desire.
What to Expect from Breast Lift Recovery
This procedure is outpatient, which means most people go home the same day. You will have bruising and swelling immediately after the surgery. During this time, you will wear a special surgical bra to support your breasts as they heal and get used to their new shape and size.
Most women are very sore for about a week. The bruising is usually mostly gone by the end of this time. Swelling can a month to subside, although your new size and shape will be immediately apparent.
Aftercare is usually straightforward. Women are advised to sleep on their backs to avoid putting pressure on incisions. Gentle activity is important to keep good health and blood flow. However, strenuous activity including lifting should be avoided for around 6 weeks. The scars will be very noticeable at first but should be faded by the end of just one year.
