Many people suffer with insecurities over their thighs. Whether you have loose skin from dramatic weight loss or fat pads that simply do not respond to diet and exercise, the appearance of our thighs can affect both your self-confidence and your wardrobe. However, you do not have to spend the rest of your life feeling embarrassed. Thigh lift surgery, or thighplasty, can resolve your issues once and for all.
Many people want thin, firm thighs that they can show off. Thigh lifts typically target inner thighs, although outer thighs and hips also can benefit from this type of surgery. Both men and women are increasingly choosing this type of surgery, especially after losing large amounts of weight.
If you are interested in this type of procedure, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Shain Cuber is here to help you get the toned legs of your dreams.
What is a Thigh Lift
Dr. Cuber offers several different types of thighplasty to meet all of your needs. These options include:
- Inner thigh lift, which tightens the inner thighs
- Lateral/outer thigh lift, which focuses on the outer thighs
- Medial thigh lift, which tightens only the uppermost part of the inner thighs
- Bilateral thigh lift, which works on the front and outer regions
- Mini thigh lift, which more subtly tightens thigh tissues with less scarring than other procedures
What to Expect from a Thigh Lift
A thighplasty will get rid of fat deposits and saddle bags while tightening loose skin and removing excessive tissue. This tissue may be from weight loss, age, or genetics. It also can give a smoother appearance under clothing or while wearing clothing that reveals the thighs.
Each type of thigh lift is performed slightly differently. An outer thigh lift combines liposuction with incisions made high in the leg, often on the hip or waist. The skin is gently separated from the other tissues before extra tissue is removed. The incision is closed, leaving a scar that is not visible wearing most clothing.
An inner thigh lift is performed in a similar way. However, the scar is hidden in the fold between the leg and the private parts. This scar generally is not visible while wearing a swimsuit or underwear.
Thigh lifts are often performed with other procedures such as a tummy tuck or a Brazilian butt lift. However, they can be performed alone as well. Patients are put under general anesthesia at our surgery center and woken after their incisions have been closed. Regardless of the type of thigh lift, our surgeons try to place scars so they are as unnoticeable as possible and hidden by normal clothing.
Recovering from a Thigh Lift
When you awaken from surgery, there will be surgical dressings over your incisions. In addition, you will be given a special garment that will compress the area, preventing swelling and helping your thighs heal in the most attractive possible shape.
In some cases, the surgeon will leave a small drain tube that will be removed at your first follow-up visit. This allows excessive fluid to drain out of the area rather than building up.
In most cases, people need to to take a week or more off work to rest and recover. There may be some swelling and bruising that should subside in just a few weeks. It is best to lay in a reclining position as much as possible to prevent putting pressure on your thighs as they heal. Most patients are back to their normal activities in about 4 to 6 weeks.
